Philanthropy in Action

About

Philanthropy in Action puts the spotlight on organized philanthropy and on what it contributes to Canadian communities.

Foundations and other grantmakers shape a great deal of public life, yet their part in it is rarely explained. Many of them publish their own reports and grantee profiles, but scattered across hundreds of websites those accounts lose the larger picture: what organized giving, taken together, actually does.

This site keeps that picture in one place. Each story follows a single project from the funder’s side, and asks the same questions: what the foundation saw, why it acted, who it worked with, and what would not have happened without it.

How the stories are made

Every story is built with the foundation concerned and published in English and in French. It names the project, the funder and the city, and keeps the people involved speaking in their own words.

About this site

Philanthropy in Action is an independent, non-commercial reading site. It has no members, takes no donations, runs no advertising and collects no personal information. It is not run by Philanthropic Foundations Canada or by any foundation featured, and nothing here speaks for them.
